William B. Harlan Memorial Library
In April of 1962, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Harlan donated $25,000.00 as well as a plot of land to be used for the construction of a new library building in Tompkinsville, Kentucky. This generous gift to the community was made in memory of their son, William Harlan, who had been a professor at the University of Southern Mississippi.
William B. Harlan Memorial Library opened to the public in October of 1966. Construction finished on a new addition to the library in 2019 which has allowed WBHML to grow and continue to better serve the citizens of Monroe County.
"The mission of the William B. Harlan Memorial Library is to provide citizens with access to information to enhance their personal growth, to create an understanding of cultural and social issues in the world community, and to satisfy their desire for recreational and leisure reading experiences. The library also provides citizens with an environment to interact with others and to participate in community activities and events."
